Trafficking continues, four more Bangladeshi women arrested from Agartala rail station
Despite concrete efforts against human traffickers by Tripura police and National Investigative Agency (NIA), the human trafficking and infiltration into Indian territory from Bangladesh remain unabated and security forces are arresting Bangladesh nationals everyday from railway stations and bus stands.
Facing severe livelihood problems the impoverished Bangladeshi continue to infiltrate India and again on Tuesday afternoon, four more Bangladeshi women including an Indian tout were arrested at the Agartala railway station before they boarded the train bound for other parts of the country.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Government Railway Police at Agartala station, Tapash Das said that all the four Bangladeshi nationals, aged between 20 to 28 years, illegally entered Tripura and came to Agartala railway station to catch the train towards their destination like cities Pune and Ahmedabad .
The detainees told the GRP officials that they intended to go to Pune and Ahmedabad in search of jobs and entered into Indian territory without any valid documents.
Arrested Bangladesh nationals were identified as Meem Sultana (23) , Rubaiya Sultana (20) alias Asha, Ritu Begam (28), Jyoti Khatun (20) and arrested Indian tout was identified as Md Kashem Miah (24) of Kalamchowra area under Sepahijala district of Tripura.
Police have also seized a few mobile phones, some Indian and Bangladesh currencies along with some documents of Bangladesh.
With this 59 Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Tripura in less than two months and all the trespassers entered into India through clandestine routes and in search of jobs in other parts of the country, said the OC.
Despite most parts of the 856 km India-Bangladesh border with Tripura already fenced and strict security put in place, Bangladeshi nationals are often being caught in the northeastern state.
On June 23rd last, the GRP of Agartala station had arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals including six before they boarded the train bound for other parts of the country.
