At least three people were killed and four others injured after a brick kiln chimney collapsed at Kamalpur in Tripura’s Dhalai district on Wednesday.

According to district administration officials, the tragic incident occurred while the brick kiln was in operation at Kamalpur in northern Tripura. Following the collapse, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local residents, rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased were recovered, and the injured were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed deep condolences over the incident and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. In a post on X, he stated: “It is learned that the chimney of ABC Brick Industry at Kamalpur suddenly collapsed, resulting in the tragic death of three persons and injuries to four others. SDRF and police teams are on the spot, carrying out rescue and relief operations.”

He added, “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and I wish a speedy recovery to those injured.”

The deceased have been identified as Subal Debnath (55) and Pinku Shil (37), both residents of Tripura, and Anil Gautam (49), a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Among the injured, two are residents of Jharkhand. Three of the four injured were later shifted to the government-run Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital in Agartala for better treatment.

The owner of the brick kiln, Souvik Paul, along with his manager, has been detained by police and is currently under the jurisdiction of Kamalpur Police Station. Dhalai District Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das and local BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb visited the site and supervised the rescue operations.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the body of a 19-year-old student was recovered from the Manu River in Tripura’s Unakoti district on Wednesday by personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services. Police said that four youths had gone to the river on Tuesday for bathing. While three were rescued by local residents, the student could not be traced that day and was later found dead.
