The Tripura Cabinet has approved a series of key decisions, including the recruitment of 1,061 teachers, creation of 213 new posts in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), and the establishment of a Tripura Staff Selection Commission for recruitment to Group-B, Group-C and Group-D posts.
Cabinet spokesperson and Transport, Toursim and Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury addressing a press conference at Civil secretariat on Wednesday afternoon said 700 Graduate Teachers (STGT) would be recruited under the Secondary Education Department for Classes IX and X.
In addition, 361 teachers would be recruited under the Elementary Education Department, including 75 Graduate Teachers and 286 Undergraduate Teachers.
Chowdhury said the recruitment process would begin shortly, describing the decision as an important opportunity for unemployed job aspirants in the state.
The Cabinet has also approved the creation and filling of 213 posts in different departments of the Agartala Municipal Corporation. The posts include positions related to engineering, planning, accounts, electrical services, surveying, inspection and computer-related services, among others.
The Cabinet also decided to establish the Tripura Staff Selection Commission for recruitment to Group-B, Group-C and Group-D posts. According to Chowdhury, the commission will function as an autonomous body with its own structure and rules and will conduct examinations for recruitment to various posts.
He said the commission was being established to ensure greater transparency in the recruitment process.
While, ahead of Durga Puja festival celebrations in 2026, the state government has decided to provide free food items to 9.92 lakh ration-card-holder families.
Each eligible family will receive 1 kg of sugar, 2 kg of flour and 500 grams of semolina (suji). The distribution will require approximately 992 metric tonnes of sugar, 1,984 metric tonnes of flour and 243 metric tonnes of semolina.
The estimated expenditure for the initiative will be between Rs 9.35 crore and Rs 9.85 crore, said Chowdhury.
The Cabinet also approved an increase in the meeting allowance for the chairman and members of the SC Welfare Sub-Committee from Rs 100 to Rs 200.
The daily allowance for students staying in boarding houses under the Minority Welfare Department has also been increased from Rs 65 to Rs 100.
In another decision, the Cabinet approved the recruitment of eight Lower Division Clerk (LDC) posts under the Department of Science and Technology.
Chowdhury further said the temporary disruption in the regular supply of sugar was linked to certain technical issues related to the subsidy provided by the Central Government. The matter would be reviewed after the Puja festivities, he added.
