The Tripura Government on Thursday reviewed the progress of infrastructure development and modernization in higher educational institutions, reaffirming its commitment to transforming the state into a major education hub through comprehensive reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP).
The review meeting was held at the conference hall of Maharaja Bir Bikram University under the chairmanship of Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman. During the meeting, the minister discussed ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening educational infrastructure and modernizing the higher education system across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Barman said the state government is taking several developmental initiatives to establish Tripura as an education hub. He stressed the need to upgrade educational infrastructure, expand digital learning facilities, adopt a contemporary education system, and improve student amenities. He also stated that building a Vikshit Tripura requires the creation of skilled human resources through quality and modern education.
The minister further highlighted the importance of developing green and clean college campuses and encouraged students to actively participate in anti-drug awareness campaigns. Discussions were also held with officials of the Power Department on installing solar lighting across college campuses and with the Horticulture Department on the maintenance and beautification of college gardens.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and MLA Dipak Majumder, who also addressed the meeting, said the state government is implementing several projects to expand access to modern education throughout Tripura. He urged students to contribute actively to social welfare initiatives.
Among those present were MBB University Vice-Chancellor, Higher Education Department Secretary Vikas Singh, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma, principals of MBB College, BBMC and Law College, MBB University Registrar Sumanta Chakraborty, faculty members, and officials from various government departments. Following the meeting, the minister and other dignitaries participated in a tree plantation programme on the university campus.
