Tripura reels under cold wave, continues to sweep the state next few days
As cold winds kept the mercury below normal levels, the maximum temperature on December 28th morning recorded 19 degrees Celsius, which was below 6.1 degrees from normal temperature and is the main reason for severe cold, although minimum temperature (12 degrees Celsius) was normal considering the present winter season.
IMD said dense to very dense fog is very likely to occur at isolated pockets of all districts of Tripura.
The MET said that the cold wave will continue for next few days across Tripura due to the thick layer of fog present over almost the whole of Tripura. Because of the cloudy and foggy sky, the sun could not appear for the last four days; as a result, the normal temperature in day time has decreased, resulting in coldness sweeping the state.
On Sunday, the mercury dropped to 19 degrees Celsius at maximum level, India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
On Monday morning Agartala along with its vicinity witnessed a densely foggy morning along with cold wind and the minimum temperature was recorded at 13.2 degrees Celsius, which is 2 degrees Celsius above normal temperature, which was normal in the last part of December. During a few days Tripura with other parts of the Northeast region is gripped by cold waves, dense fog along with neighbouring Bangladesh.
The chill wind is normal and it’s about 3 to 5 knots per hour, but its intensity in surface level is maximum. From Thursday morning till Monday afternoon, Agartala and other parts of the state passes through foggy weather and due to the dense layer of fog, the sunlight cannot reach the surfaces.
The India Meteorological department (IMD), Agartala station said deep fog layers are moving above the skies of Tripura and it will continue for newxt few days also.
IMD, Agartala station through its latest bulletin said that very light rain to occur at isolate places over the West Tripura district and dry weather prevail over the rest districts of Tripura during next 24-hours.
IMD said that the minimum temperature will hover 13 to 15 degrees Celsius for the next two to three days. The Met office further added, the fog reduced visibility in the morning. “Mainly clear sky, shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur during night to morning hours,” said IMD and has forecast a foggy day on Tuesday also.
The weatherman also predicted that dense fog conditions are also very likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over Tripura on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Cold Day to severe Cold Day conditions are very likely to continue in some parts over other Northeastern states for next few days and abate thereafter,” said the weatherman.
