Two drug peddlers arrested with Brown Sugar from a bordering village

In another successful anti-drug operation, Tripura police recovered large quantities of Brown Sugar and arrested two drug peddlers from a bordering village near Gandhigram under Airport police station.
Giving details police on Tuesday said that based on secret information, the Airport police station conducted a raid at the rented house of Samarjit Biswas, a tenant of Bishwajit Paul, a resident of Gandhigram School Tilla area on Monday midnight.
During the raid, from two soap cases, police recovered 56 grams of Brown Sugar and cash and arrested Samarjit Biswas, son of tenant Rabi Ranjan Biswas, and Nikhil Sarkar alias Julu.
Police added that arrested drug peddler Nikhil Sarkar alias Julu, a notorious drug trafficker in the bordering areas of Bamutia under West Tripura district, had previously been arrested in an NDPS case. After serving jail time and being released on bail, he resumed cross-border smuggling and Brown Sugar trade. Finally, he has been arrested again with large quantities of Brown Sugar.
The operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (West District), SDPO NCC Subrata Barman, along with Airport police station OC, Abhijit Mondal, a large police and TSR jawans.
Speaking to the media, SDPO (NCC) Subrata Barman stated that the market value of the recovered Brown Sugar is estimated to be around Rs 8 lakh. A case under specific sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused persons, and they were also produced before a local court on Tuesday for further legal proceedings.
