Two gang rape accused arrested, police recovered Rs. 90 lakh cash from a accused house
In the sensational gang rape case of the Amtali police station, police has so far arrested two prime accused and during raid in the house of one accused has also recovered huge amount of cash.
Giving details SP(West) Kiran Kumar K Said that on the May 10th , 2023 an allegation of gang rape of college girl was registered at Amtali police station under West Tripura district .
He said that as stipulated norms so far all necessary legal steps have been taken including medical checkup of the victim girl and till today, the investigation has arrested two prime accused Goutam Sharma and Sudip Chetri.
Kiran Kumar said on Thursday, a police team raided at the house of one co-accused Prasenjit Paul at Maheshkhala area under same police station and during raid, police has recovered Rs. 90 lakh hard cash amount, some incriminating documents in support of batting in IPL cricket tournament and other gambling network.
Police has also seized the offending vehicle, in which miscreants had committed the gang rape and have also recovered few ATM cards and log books of gambling network.
He said that a massive manhunt has been launched by 3 to 4 police teams, while during the raid at Maheshkhala area, the uncle of the gang rape accused Laxman Paul was arrested, who was directly involved with money laundering and gambling network. The SP hoped that soon all the accused involved in gang rape will be arrested.
He added that additional special teams have been formed and raids are going on in various parts of the state to nab the involved accused persons and to gather more evidence by using scientific aids.
Meanwhile, one the prime accused Goutam Sharma was produced before a local court in Agartala with five days police remand appeals under 376, 376(D) and 328 of IPC.
Additional Public prosecutor (APP) Bidyut Sutradhar said that the prime accused of the crime and driver of the vehicle Gautam Sharma was arrested late on Wednesday night and the police are looking for the other accused. He added that after hearing, the court granted five days police remand to accused Goutam Sharma for interrogation and he will be produced before court on May 15 next.
Various organisations and student bodies in Tripura organised protests on Thursday against the kidnap and gang-rape of the college student, who is undergoing treatment at the GB Hospital, is stated to "very critical" condition.
The 20-year-old college student was kidnapped on Monday afternoon when she was returning from her college in the outskirts of the city.
Later, on Tuesday morning, the victim girl was recovered from an abandoned place along the Bypass road of Agartala and was taken to a hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical.
The victim's mother said that her daughter was returning home when accused Gautam Sharma offered her a lift. There were three others in the vehicle, the girl's mother said and alleged that all the four people, including the driver, gang-raped the girl inside the moving vehicle and abandoned her along the Bypass road on next day morning.
All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) , a women's wing of the CPI(M), SFI, DYFI and other organizations on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of police headquarters demanding arrest of all accused and stringent punishment of all culprits involved in the heinous crime.
Veteran women leaders Rama Das, Krishna Rakshit said that students, girls and women are not safe even in Tripura capital Agartala. In the latest incident, a college girl was kidnapped from the capital city in broad daylight and then gang-raped by four men inside a car. Police are yet to arrest the culprits even after three days of the heinous crime," said Krishna Rakshit.
Earlier, on Wednesday evening, general secretary of state unit of BJP, Papiya Datta visited GB Hospital and met the victim girl and her family members. She strongly condemned the barbaric incident and demanded stringent punishment to all accused persons involved in the gang rape.
