Bangladesh's deadliest hangman Shahjahan Bhuiyan, who executed six killers of Bangabandhu, dies in Dhaka hospital
Bangladesh's deadliest executioner Shahjahan Bhuiyan, who had executed six killers of the country's founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, died at a hospital in the capital Dhaka City on Monday.
He was 74.
Shahjahan Bhuiyan reportedly executed 26 people in his lifetime.
Popularly known as 'Jollad Shahjahan', he was released from prison in 2023 after spending 31 years behind the bars.
He was originally sentenced to 42 years in prison in two cases of robbery, murder, and violation of the Arms Act. However, as a reward for his work as an executioner, good behaviour, and meritorious deeds in prison, he received a remission of 10 years, 5 months, and 28 days, reported Dhaka Tribune.
He was arrested and brought to prison for committing several crimes like murder and robbery.
Following his release from prison, the hangman married a woman who was much younger than him and faced legal complications, local media reports said.
Notorious criminal Ershad Shikdar, militant leader Bangla Bhai and Ataur Rahman Sunny, Sharmin Rima murder accused Khuku and Monir, and Daisy murder case accused Hasan were among those who Shahjahan Bhuiyan executed.
