California Shooting: 9 die after Chinese New Year party
Los Angeles: At least nine people died after a shooting incident occurred at a business premise in the US city of California on Saturday following a Chinese New Year Party, media reports said.
The shooting took place at about 22:20 local time in the Monterey Park area of the city.
Earlier, a large number of people had gathered at the park to attend the Lunar New Year festival.
The exact number of people who were injured in the incident is still unknown.
Seung Won Choi, who owns a seafood barbecue restaurant on Garvey Avenue across from where the shooting happened, told Los Angeles Times three people rushed into his restaurant and told him to lock the door.
They said there was a man with a semiautomatic gun in the area. The shooter, they said, had multiple rounds of ammunition on him, so that once his ammunition ran out he reloaded, Choi said.
