Customers can now subscribe to either the Tk 6,000  "Starlink Residential" package or the Tk 4,200 (USD 35) "Residential Lite", reported The Daily Star.

An initial installation package fee is needed to be paid by users while availing the packages.

Informing about its launch in the South Asian nation, Starlink's official X handle posted: "Starlink's high-speed, low-latency internet is now available in Bangladesh!"

The official Facebook page of Interim Government's Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus also confirmed the development and mentioned: " Sterlink is starting with two packages initially - Sterlink Residence and Residence Light. Monthly expense is 6000 Taka for one, 4200 Taka for the other. But 47 thousand taka will be spent one time for setup equipment. There is no speed and data limit. Person can use unlimited data speed up to 300 Mbps."

The company began operations within 90 days of receiving a licence from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on April 29, The Daily Star reported.

This is one of the major decisions taken by Muhammad Yunus-led government since he assumed charge.

Bangladesh witnessed a major political change last year when facing massive violent protests, former PM Sheikh Hasina fled from the country to neighbouring India on August 5, ending her tenure just months after winning the general polls.

Yunus took charge of the country just days after her exit.

During the July-August protest against Hasina's government, authorities had suspended internet and text services.

Starklink and India

Last month, Indian Minister Piyush Goyal met a delegation representing entrepreneur Elon Musk-owned Starlink, when they discussed their existing partnerships and future investment plans in India.

Speaking about the meeting, Goyal had written on X: "Met a delegation from @Starlink , comprising of Vice President Chad Gibbs & Senior Director, Ryan Goodnight. "

"Discussions covered Starlink's cutting-edge technology platform, their existing partnerships & future investment plans in India," he said.

Airtel and Jio, India's major private telecom operators, recently partnered with Starlink to bring its high-speed satellite internet services to their customers in the South Asian nation.

The development occurred just days after US President Donald Trump inauguration for the second term took place.

Elon Musk is a close aide of Trump.

What is Starlink?

As per the official website, Starlink is the world's first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls and more.

Starlink claims it delivers high-speed, low-latency internet to users all over the world.
