One killed, three injured in US Mall shooting on Christmas eve

Washington DC: A person died on the spot, while three others sustained injuries in a clash between two groups at a mall in Colorado Springs, a city in the western US state of Colorado, on Sunday while people were busy giving final touches to their holiday shopping, CNN reported, citing police sources.


A fight erupted between two groups and the sparring individuals opened fire, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

After about 4:30 pm (local time), police responded to the spot where the fight was going on.

Police recovered the body of the man killed in the firing at the Citadel Mall and two other men "suffering from at least one gunshot wound each" were taken to hospitals in critical condition, police said in a statement on X.

The police said a woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, CNN reported.

According to the cops, several people have been held for questioning about the incident.

In a post on X, the Colorado Springs Police Department stated, "At 4:34 pm on Sunday, December 24, 2023, CSPD received a call for service for shots fired at the Citadel Mall. Officers responded and determined that a fight had broken out between two groups of people. One adult male was found dead in the mall from a gunshot wound."

"Two adult males were transported in serious condition to local hospitals, suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. One female was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. CSPD has multiple people detained and is working to determine their involvement," it added.

Shoppers and staff have been evacuated from the mall and the establishment has been closed, Colorado Springs Police Department said, adding that there is no indication of fresh violence in the area.

This comes after a shooting incident inside Paddock Mall at Ocala in Florida in which a man and a woman were killed, CNN reported citing Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken.
