Shooting at a popular bar in Miami leaves 2 dead
At least two persons died and seven others were hurt after a shooting incident occurred at a bar in a popular outdoor mall in the US city of Miami, media reports said.
According to local law enforcement, an altercation at a martini bar at the CityPlace Doral complex broke out around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, prompting a security guard working the scene to intervene, reported NBC News.
A man, who was involved in the altercation, later shot and killed a gun.
Two police officers then shot and killed the alleged gunman, but not before one officer and six bystanders — five men and a woman, according to police — were wounded in the shootout, NBC News reported.
Two of the bystanders were listed in critical condition, while the officer was listed as stable after being shot in the leg. That officer, a four-year veteran of the force, applied a tourniquet on himself immediately after being struck, Doral Police Department Chief Edwin Lopez was quoted as saying by the news portal.
An individual, who was identified as a man with whom the gunman was arguing, has been taken into custody.
The City of Doral Police Department alongside the Miami Dade Police Department and the Federal Department of Law Enforcement have been working to probe the cause of the gunfire, said the Doral Police Department on social media.
The United States has by far the highest rate of gun-related deaths among wealthy countries. Over 4,200 people died and more than 7,500 others were injured from gun violence in the country so far in 2024, according to the Gun Violence Archive, Xinhua reported.
