US Embassy alerts its nationals in Pakistan over possible protests

By IBNS
Oct 7, 2024 ..

The US Embassy and consulates in Pakistan recently cautioned its citizens over possible protests across various cities in the country between October 4 to 7.

In a statement, the Embassy directed citizens to avoid demonstrations and other large gatherings.

" U.S. Embassy Islamabad and the U.S. Consulates General in Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar note potential protest activity in various locations in Pakistan October 4 – 7, 2024," the Embassy said in a statement.

" Large crowds and traffic congestion are expected, along with a precautionary security presence, an increased number of checkpoints, and associated disruptions to local mobile and internet networks in the region. Intercity travel and traffic congestion could continue beyond October 7," the statement said.

The US Embassy directed its citizens to monitor local media over the developments in the country.

The Embassy said: "Movement of U.S. Mission personnel may be impacted due to changes in security or traffic conditions. U.S. citizens are reminded that protests can be fluid in nature and even peaceful gatherings can turn violent. Internet and mobile phone service outages are common, especially during protests."
