80 pct Indians have favourable views about PM Modi, says Pew Research

New DelhiIBNS: About eight in ten Indians (79 percent) have a favorable view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a Pew survey published on Tuesday.

In comparison, a median of 37 percent in 12 countries, most participants belonging to the middle-income group, reported having confidence in PM Modi to make correct foreign policy.

Kenyans are especially confident, with 60 percent saying they trust PM Modi to do the right thing regarding world affairs, while Argentines are particularly skeptical with just 12 percent having confidence in the Indian leader.

At least one in ten in each of these countries also do not offer an opinion on PM Modi.

While people in most nations of the G20 have a favourable view of India, according to the survey, the number of residents in European countries who view India positively has come down in the last 15 years.

The survey of over 30,000 people across 24 countries, conducted between February and May this year by the Pew Research Centre, shows that India is viewed favourably with a 46 percent median, while 34 percent look at India unfavourably.

Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, all members of the G20, were not surveyed among the 24 nations where people were polled, which included India.

The survey comes less than two weeks before PM Modi is set to host leaders of the G20 nations in New Delhi for a summit.
