Allahabad HC Bar Association on indefinite strike opposing SC Collegium's transfer of 'cash pile' accused Justice Yashwant Varma
New Delhi/IBNS: The Allahabad High Court Bar Association on Tuesday went on an indefinite strike after it was miffed by the Supreme Court collegium's repatriation of 'cash pile' accused Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma, media reports said.

The Bar Association has requested the central government not to clear the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation of transferring Justice Varma from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad HC.
The resolution passed by the Bar stated as quoted by Live Law, "In the General Assembly of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association held today, on 24.03.2025, a proposal was passed unanimously stating that we will strongly oppose any future attempts to transfer Hon'ble Justice Shri Yashwant Varma of the Hon'ble Allahabad High Court.
"However, despite this, the Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting today, ignored the demand of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association and passed an order for the transfer of Hon'ble Justice Shri Yashwant Varma to the Allahabad High Court. Deeply upset by this, we have unanimously decided to abstain from judicial work until further notice."
What happened at Justice Varma's house?
A fire at Justice Varma's residential bungalow led to the recovery of a huge pile of unaccounted cash, prompting the Supreme Court collegium to transfer from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad HC.
Justice Varma was out of town when a fire broke out at his residence last week. Justice Varma's family members had called the fire brigade.
But when the firefighters doused the fire, a huge pile of cash was discovered inside a room.
Police were called by the firefighters.
The accidental discovery, which left the judiciary red-faced, led Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna to call an immediate collegium meeting.
