Bengal: IIT-Kharagpur student found hanging in hostel room, third campus death in a year

Kolkata/IBNS: A fourth-year undergraduate student at IIT-Kharagpur was found hanging in a hostel room on Sunday evening, media reports said.
As per reports, authorities were alerted and police were informed after 22-year-old Aniket Walker did not open the room for a long time and didn't respond to calls from his friends and classmates.
The cops rushed to the hostel, broke open the door and discovered Aniket's body hanging from the ceiling fan.
The student was rushed to BC Roy Hospital where he was declared as dead.
Aniket, who was from the Gondia district of Maharashtra, was pursuing twin degrees in Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture.
His final semester examination was scheduled to begin on Monday.
The institute authorities mourned Aniket's death and rescheduled the examination to April 26.
"He was a good student and had bagged an internship too. It is a tremendous loss for the institute. The student's mental health issues were identified, and an effort was made to address it, but unfortunately, it did not bear fruit," said IIT-Kharagpur acting director Amit Patra as reported by The Times of India.
Aniket's friends and classmates are also clueless about the reason behind such a drastic step.
Aniket's death marks the second death in the campus this semester and third within a year raising an alarming situation.
