Kolkata/IBNS/UNI: The Calcutta High Court Friday formed a two-judge special bench to complete all hearings within six months in relation to the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teachers in the West Bengal government-sponsored schools across the state.

Calcutta High Court Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya formed the special bench following a Supreme Court directive.

The newly formed special bench comprises Justices Debangsu Basak and Shabbar Rashidi, who have been assigned to complete all hearings within six months in the cases related to alleged jobs for cash in the teaching staff of the state government-run schools across Bengal.

The special bench was formed a day after an appeal in the court sought a speedy hearing into all school job scam cases by forming such a bench as per the apex judiciary's directive.

Advocate Firdous Shamim, appearing for the deprived candidates, in his fresh plea to the Cal HC Chief Justice mentioned the apex court's recent directive for speedy hearing in the cases.

The Supreme Court double bench comprising Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Bela M. Trivedi on November 10 returned to the Calcutta High Court all the cases about the alleged irregularities in the school job scam and gave a directive for a speedy hearing.

The Supreme Court also directed the central investigation agencies, including the CBI, to complete the investigation within the next two months.

The Enforcement Directorate, probing the money trail of the scam, has arrested former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and several top officials of the education department.
