Apart from Chennai, its neighbouring districts Kanchipuram, Tiravallur and Chengalpattu have been battered by heavy rain.

Traffic in Chennai was disrupted by the waterlogging which also caused discomfort to the residents.

The Chennai Airport has been temporarily shut down from 12 noon to 7 pm as a prevention from strong winds due to the cyclone.

The state government has closed schools and colleges in nine districts.

Despite the heavy rainfall, transport facilities are active in Chennai.

The government has advised fishermen to not venture into the Bay of Bengal till further notice.

An orange alert is in place in Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Karaikal districts.

On Thursday, heavy rain caused widespread damage to paddy crops across 800 acres in Nagapattinam district while the threat of heavy rain prompted schools and colleges in the Chennai, Chengalpattu and Cuddalore areas to shut on Friday.
