Delhi HC rejects Manish Sisodia's bail plea in excise policy case
New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of former city Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the excise policy case, media reports said.
The court said as quoted by India Today, "The allegations against Manish Sisodia are very serious. His behaviour is not right in this case. He can influence witnesses.
"He had been the deputy chief minister and held 18 portfolios. Bail can't be granted to him."
Sisodia was arrested on Feb 26 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged irregularities in Delhi's new liquor policy.
He was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The probe into the alleged liquor scam started after the Delhi Lieutenant Governor ordered a CBI investigation.
After the order, Delhi’s AAP government reinstated the old liquor policy in the national capital and blamed the LG for revenue loss of crores of rupees that would have come to the exchequer if the new liquor policy was not withdrawn.
The CBI is investigating the alleged involvement of a "south lobby" consisting of businessmen and politicians in manipulating the Delhi liquor policy to benefit themselves, with the help of middlemen, traders, and bureaucrats.
