Delhi High Court heard petition challenging removal of the Night Shelters
New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Friday heard a petition by Night Shelter dwellers of Kashmere Gate Yamuna Pushta area challenging DDA's decision of removing certain shelters in those areas.
The court has listed the matter for Tuesday.
During the hearing the DDA submitted that the residents are proposed to be shifted to other shelters, a list of which was given in the court.
The petitioner's counsel Kamlesh Kumar Mishra sought to visit the proposed relocation site to assess the feasibility. On the issue of granting the stay, the DUSIB counsel as also the office more prominently PK Jha, the Director of rehabilitation of DUSIB stated that they will take no adverse action till Tuesday.
Mishra has however claimed that despite the statement made in the court today demolition went on at the site.
He stated that demolition was going on in the site and that when he visited the site particularly Night shelter code No. 227 there was a truck stationed at site and the structure was being removed. Heavy police deployment was there he added.
Mishra stated that the removal of the Night shelter and it's occupants late in the night in this manner is in complete violation and contravention of the Proceedings in the Delhi High court today.
"This is a clear case of contempt of court and more so completely inhuman on the part of the DUSIB and Delhi Police to use force to remove poor slum dwellers," he said.
