ED summons to Abhishek Banerjee political vendetta: Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday termed the Enforcement Directorate summons to Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee as a "political vendetta".
The central agency, tasked to probe money laundering cases, has asked Abhishek to appear before it in connection with the alleged teacher's recruitment scam on Wednesday, Sept 13, the very day he is scheduled to attend the maiden coordination committee meeting of the INDIA alliance in New Delhi.
Mamata Banerjee alleged that Abhishek was being "unnecessarily harassed".
"This is political vendetta. Abhishek is being unnecessarily harassed. There should not be vindictiveness, it might boomerang as well," said the Trinamool Congress supremo.
This is not the first time that the Trinamool leader has been summoned by central agencies in connection with the recruitment scam. Both ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have issued summons to him earlier.
The scam involved appointments as teachers and non-teaching staff in state-run schools through illegal means.
On the arrest of former Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, the TMC chairperson said: "I don't like the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu, If there is some mistake, you should talk and conduct an investigation. Nothing should be done to anyone vindictively."
