Gujarat: Dalits protest against alleged caste-based attack on NSUI leader
Ahmedabad/IBNS: The Dalits took to streets to protest in Gujarat's Gondal against an alleged caste-based attack on Congress students' wing National Students' Union of India (NSUI) functionary Sanjay Solanki, media reports said.
The protest was led by hundreds of people, mostly Dalits, about 200 kilometers away from Ahmedabad.
Sanjay Solanki, the NSUI functionary, has alleged he was kidnapped and carried to a deserted farm in Gondal. He was threatened with a firearm in front of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Geetaba Jadeja's son Jyotiradityasinh, Hindustan Times reported.
Jyotiradityasinh was arrested on June
Solanki has alleged he was forced by some at the farm to remove his clothes while others filmed the alleged assault.
Solanki and Jyotiradityasinh had a verbal spat earlier over the latter's alleged reckless driving.
"We will not be intimidated. For the first time, the Jadeja family has faced such a public protest," Yuva Bhim Sena Gujarat founder DD Solanki said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
The protesters have demanded an action against Solanki and a judgement in a fast-track court.
