New Delhi: British PM Rishi Sunak, who visited New Delhi's Akshardham Temple, on Sunday said he is a 'proud Hindu' and his India-origin root will always help him in connecting with the country.

"I am hugely proud of my Indian roots and my connections to India ... being a proud Hindu means I will always have a connection to India and the people of India," the PM was quoted as saying in an X post by the British High Commission.

Taking a break from the G20 Summit, Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty visited the Akshardham Temple in the national capital on Sunday.

This is Rishi Sunak's first official visit to India since becoming Britain's Prime Minister.

The security around the temple has been beefed up ahead of their visit.

Before leaving India after the completion of the summit, Sunak described the G20 meet as 'historic' and 'thanked' his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for hosting the event.

"Stronger together. Stronger united," he wrote on X.
