'I made a mistake’: Actress Parno Mittra quits BJP, joins Mamata Banerjee’s TMC ahead of 2026 polls
Kolkata/IBNS: Bengali actress Parno Mittra joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday, quitting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2026 assembly polls in West Bengal.
Parno, who joined the BJP in 2019, had contested on the saffron party’s ticket in the 2021 assembly elections from the Baranagar constituency. However, she lost to then TMC candidate and now a BJP leader, Tapas Roy.
During her induction into the TMC in the presence of senior leader Chandrima Bhattacharya, Parno expressed regret for her decision to join the BJP six years ago, stating that things didn’t materialise as she had hoped.
She acknowledged her mistake and decided to join the TMC to rectify it.
“I have joined TMC to correct my mistake of joining BJP six years ago,” Parno said.
Parno expressed her excitement about embarking on a new journey under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee.
“I am looking forward to a new journey under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee,” she added.
Parno’s last appearance was in the Hoichoi web series Bhog this year.
