IAEA rules out radiation leak in Pakistan after Operation Sindoor

May 15, 2025..

New Delhi: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that there was no radiation leak or release from any nuclear facility in Pakistan during its recent military conflict with India.

The clarification from the global nuclear watchdog comes in response to widespread claims circulating on social media that Indian armed forces had targeted Pakistan’s nuclear installations during Operation Sindoor.

"Based on information available to the IAEA, there has been no radiation leak or release from any nuclear facility in Pakistan," an IAEA spokesperson told PTI.

Earlier, Air Marshal A K Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, also dismissed reports that India struck Kirana Hills, a region known to host Pakistani nuclear infrastructure.

“We have not hit Kirana Hills, whatever is there,” he said during a media briefing on May 12.

India had confirmed strikes on an airbase in Sargodha, which led to some speculation linking the base to underground nuclear storage facilities in the nearby Kirana Hills area.

Adding to the rebuttals, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal dismissed US President Donald Trump's claims that he helped prevent a nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan.

He said that India’s military operations remained strictly within the conventional domain and denied any possibility or indication of a nuclear escalation.
