IndiGo flight suffers damage in tailstrike during takeoff from Delhi airport, aircraft returns safely
New Delhi/IBNS: An IndiGo aircraft suffered damage at the tail section after it hit the runway when it was taking off from Delhi airport, media reports said.
The IndiGo flight No. 6E 6054 was scheduled to take off for Bengaluru when the incident reportedly happened on Sept 9.
As a result of the damage, the tail section of the aircraft received several white dents on its blue paint, indicating a serious tailstrike.
A tailstrike occurs when the tail of an aircraft touches the runway during takeoff or landing.
This can be dangerous as it has the potential to cause structural damage, especially to the rear pressure bulkhead, which is the cone-shaped area in an aircraft's tail that seals the pressurised cabin.
The pilot of the said flight immediately informed the air traffic controller about the incident, following which the ATC gave clearance to land. The aircraft landed safely, said reports.
No one was injured in the incident.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Delhi airport authorities are conducting a probe into the incident.
The DGCA has derostered the crew as it initiated the process of finding out the cause of the incident.
