The deceased included eight men, two women and a child, Rescue 1122 told Dawn. Rescue teams were continuing relief operations at the site and recovering victims from the debris.
According to police, the blast occurred at the Aman Mela checkpost near Mughal Kot and Darazinda along the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta Road, close to the border between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
A bomb disposal squad was dispatched to the site to determine the nature and cause of the explosion.
Police said several people, including police personnel, customs officials and two civilians, were among those injured.
The injured were taken to hospitals in Darazinda and Dera Ismail Khan, including Mufti Mahmood Hospital, for treatment.
The Aman Mela checkpost is primarily used by police for security checks and monitoring vehicles travelling along the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta route.
