INS Trikand steals the show at Mauritius National Day parade
INS Trikand concluded its port call at Port Louis on March 13, 2026, after participating in the Mauritius National Day celebrations.
The ship took part in the 58th Mauritius National Day Parade on March 12 with a marching contingent, a naval band, and its integral helicopter performing a fly-past at Champ de Mars.
“This is in keeping with the tradition of Indian warships and aircraft participating in Mauritius National Day celebrations,” a government statement said.
During the visit, Captain Sachin Kulkarni, Commanding Officer of INS Trikand, met Rampersad Sooroojebally and Anurag Srivastava.
The ship also hosted a cultural evening onboard, attended by senior ministers and officials from the Government of Mauritius. Mahend Gungapersad attended the event as the Chief Guest.
During the port call, the crew conducted several professional interactions, cultural engagements, sports activities, and community outreach programmes aimed at strengthening the close ties between the two nations.
Training sessions were also held onboard for personnel of the Mauritius National Coast Guard, covering practical aspects of harbour and sea watchkeeping, firefighting, and damage control.
INS Trikand was opened to visitors on March 12 and welcomed over 500 guests onboard.
Upon departure from Port Louis, the ship carried out a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) and joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance with CGS Valiant, before proceeding to the next phase of its operational deployment.
The port call reaffirmed the longstanding maritime partnership between India and Mauritius, aligned with India’s vision of MAHASAGAR, and further strengthened bilateral ties between the two countries.
