It's India vs Terroristan: Jaishankar's attack on Pakistan from Brussels

Brussels/IBNS: India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has described Pakistan as "Terroristan" in demonstrating India's fight against terrorism in the backdrop of the Operation Sindoor, media reports said.

Jaishankar made the remark during his official visit to Brussels.

He addressed a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

"This is not a conflict between two states. This is actually a response to the threat and practice of terrorism. So, I would urge you not to think of it as India-Pakistan, but think of it as India-Terroristan," said Jaishankar in the briefing.

"We strongly believe that there should be zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. In that context, it is also essential that we never yield to nuclear blackmail.

"This is a shared and interconnected challenge for the global community, and it is imperative that there is strong international cooperation and understanding on the matter," he added.

Jaishankar made the remark in the backdrop of the Operation Sindoor, which was launched by the Indian Armed Forces to bust nine terrorist camps in Pakistan in a bid to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

The operation went on from May 7 to 10 until Pakistan dialled India appealing for a ceasefire to which New Delhi agreed to.

The minister has clarified that India may have paused Operation Sindoor but will re-launch anytime if provoked with similar attacks.

"We are not going to live with it. So our message to them is that if you continue to do the kind of barbaric acts which they did in April, then there is going to be retribution, and that retribution will be against the terrorist organisations and the terrorist leadership, " Jaishankar said.

"We don't care where they are. If they are deep in Pakistan, we will go deep into Pakistan."

Jaishankar on Monday met Belgian Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot when he welcomed the country's support and solidarity in combating terrorism.

Jaishankar said during the meeting a wide-ranging discussion was held in multiple sectors, including cooperation in trade, investment, technology, defence & security, pharmaceuticals, clean energy and mobility.

Apart from Belgium, Jaishankar is also scheduled to visit the EU and France.

India and France have completed 25 years of strategic partnership.
