Jammu and Kashmir: Militant arrested with arms and ammunition in Sopore
Srinagar: Security forces on Wednesday arrested active militant and recovered arms and ammunition from him in Sopore Township of north Kashmir, officials said.
Police said based on specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in Madina Bagh Moh, Dangerpora area, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the Sopore police and Army’s 22 RR.
“As the initial cordon was being laid, a terrorist was spotted trying to run away and attempting to break the cordon, taking cover of narrow lanes and by-lanes and the congested area”, police said and added “the movement was passed to all the troops and depending on information the mission leader re-organised the inner cordon”.
Police said, assessing the situation the vigilant troops displayed awareness, extreme restraint and exceptional fire control in not opening fire.
The alert troops of the joint team managed to nab the terrorist alive thereby displaying great synergy.
The militant has been identified as Owais Ahmad Mir, a resident of War Mohalla Gund Brat.
During the search incriminating material including a 9mm pistol, 8 (9mm) rounds, a Pistol Magazine and a Chinese Grenade were recovered.
Police said, “by the apprehension of the terrorist, police and security forces have averted a major tragedy and prevented planned target killing in the area.”
“The nefarious designs of Pakistan terrorist handlers who are always hellbent on disrupting peace in the valley has also thereby been foiled,” police added.
