Jaipur/IBNS: US Vice-President JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance and their three children received a warm traditional Rajasthani welcome at the state capital Jaipur on the second day of their India visit, media reports said.

Vance and his family, who are on a four-day visit to India from April 21, were welcomed by classical dancers and trained elephants at Amber Fort.

After their visit to Amber Fort, the Veep and his family are set to visit Rambagh Palace, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar in the city.

They will meet Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma in the evening.

The Vance family will head to Agra on Wednesday.

Vance-Modi meet

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening hosted Vance and his family at his official residence in New Delhi.

In several official videos, Modi was seen greeting the Vance family, interacting with the Veep's children and giving them peacock feathers.

Delegation-level talks followed it and came at a time when India and the United States are at an advanced stage of discussions to finalise a bilateral trade deal that will benefit both nations.

Vance's visit to India takes place in the shadow of US President Donald Trump's recent announcement of reciprocal tariffs which he, however, has paused for 90 days for all countries except China.

Trump had imposed  a 26 percent tariff over and above the previous 10 percent tariff on Indian goods as a part of his administration's 'reciprocal tariffs' policy.

The White House has stated that the Trump administration has put its relations with India as a top priority and is keen to have a trade deal in place.

Indian leaders have said that a trade deal was expected by autumn, but it is being given priority to be completed by the end of July.

New Delhi has, however, made it clear that it will not be hurried into a deal, nor would it be compelled to make a deal "at gunpoint".

A deal will only happen when it takes India's concerns into account, it said.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who will visit Washington DC soon for an IMF meeting, is likely to hold advanced-level talks with senior US officials to finalise the India-US trade deal.

'Modi is a great leader'

Lauding Prime Minister Modi, Vance wrote on X, "It was an honor to see Prime Minister Modi this evening. He’s a great leader and he was incredibly kind to my family.

"I look forward to working under President Trump’s leadership to strengthen our friendship and cooperation with the people of India!"
