Kashmiri medical student alleges facing brutal ragging by seniors in Karnataka college

Feb 19, 2025..

A second-year Kashmiri MBBS student alleged that he was assaulted and severely ragged by senior students at Al-Ameen Medical College in Karnataka.

The victim was identified as Hameem.

He hails from Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag.

He alleged he was ragged by senior students belonging to the 2019 batch during a cricket match.

The suspects reportedly forced him to sing songs and dance for their amusement.

The seniors allegedly tried to force him into a car. When he took out his phone to record the incident, they became even more aggressive, reported NDTV.

A group of six to eight seniors later in the night stormed into the Kashmiri student's hostel room and forced him to record a statement of apology.

"You have four more years here. We are locals-imagine how terrible we can make your life," the attackers warned him as quoted by NDTV.

They warned he would not be allowed to play cricket for the remaining years of his college life.

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, condemned the attack on the student.

"A team of Karnataka Police, along with senior officers, is now present at the college. The concerned SSP is on the spot. The police are in the process of filing an FIR, and the college administration is initiating disciplinary action against the senior students involved," he posted on X.

"However, after speaking to the victim again, he expressed that he does not wish for an FIR to be lodged against those who harassed him, fearing that it could create long-term issues for him, as he still has four more years to study there. His primary concern is his safety, security, and peace of mind," he said.

He said the college must impose stricter anti-ragging policies.
