Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee participates in rally to protest against 'manhandling' of wrestlers at Jantar Mantar
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday joined a rally in Kolkata in protest against the alleged manhandling of wrestlers at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Carrying a placard with the message, "We Want Justice", Banerjee took part in the rally, which started from Hazra Road and culminated at Rabindra Sadan.
State Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Aroop Biswas and several sportspersons also joined the rally
Banerjee, who on Tuesday, extended her solidarity with the agitating wrestlers, had tweeted: " Strongly condemn the way Delhi Police manhandled Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and other wrestlers. It’s shameful our champions are treated in this manner. Democracy lies in tolerance but autocratic forces thrive on intolerance and quelling of dissent. I demand they be immediately released by police. I stand by our wrestlers."
