Lok Sabha polls 2024: PM Modi, Amit Shah to visit Tamil Nadu to campaign for BJP-led NDA candidates
Chennai/UNI: With the BJP aiming to make a mark in the Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu by winning a good chunk of seats, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are likely to visit the state to campaign for the BJP-led NDA candidates.
Single phase polling for 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held on April 19.
Shah was earlier scheduled to visit the State and attend road shows and an election meeting on Thursday, in the southern districts of the State.
However, his programme for the day has been cancelled, BJP sources told UNI on Thursday morning.
He is likely to visit tomorrow and the programme was yet to be confirmed.
During the visit, the Home Minister is expected to canvass votes for NDA candidates in five Lok Sabha seats, by attending four roadshows and a public meeting
The roadshows are likely to be held in Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, and Theni.
Ousted AIADMK leader and NDA-backed Independent candidate O.Panneerselvam, who is also the former Chief Minister, John Pandian of TMMK, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran are contesting in these four seats respectively.
He is also expected to attend a poll rally in Madurai.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the State for four-days for campaigning.
Though reports said that he would be visiting the State on April 9, 10, 13 and 14, BJP sources said that the Prime Minister's visit on April 9 has been almost confirmed, but an official tour programme was awaited.
During his four-day tour, he is likely to attend road shows in Vellore, South Chennai, Perambalur and in southern districts of Kanyakumari and Virudhunagar, besides a public meeting in the Kongu belt of Coimbatore, where BJP State President K.Annamalai is contesting.
The BJP has a good base in the Kongu region and Mr Modi's visit is expected to consolidate its position further.
