Maharashtra: 7 killed, 10 injured in road accident in Amravati district
Amravati/Nagpur/UNI: At least seven people were killed and ten others sustained serious injuries when a truck-laden and a pick-up vehicle carrying labourers collided with near Tapi river bridge, just 5 km away near Melghat in Amravati district, bordering Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, a senior police official told UNI.
According to the official, the mishap took place on Wednesday at around 2 pm when 22 labourers, travelling in a pickup vehicle collided with a speeding sugarcane-laden truck.
Six labourers died on the spot while a youth died while being taken to the hospital by ambulance, the official said.
The injured were immediately rushed to Khandwa Burahanpur Government Hospital for treatment, the official said.
The official further informed that a few tribal families from Sunderdev in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh (MP) had come to the Akola district of Maharashtra for employment a month ago.
The accident took place while returning to their village from Akot in a pick-up vehicle, the official said adding that further probe was underway.
