Mamata Banerjee announces cash rewards to 3 Bengal women cricketers, coach after inaugural WC U-19 win
Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced a monetary reward of Rs 5 lakh each to four World Cup-winning cricketers, who represented Bengal in the Indian team Under-19 Women, which won the inaugural T20 championship in South Africa on Sunday.
India beat England by seven wickets in the final.
West Bengal sports minister Arup Biswas the government would reward three players Richa Ghosh, Titas Sidhu and Rishita Basu as well as team coach Rajiv Dutta with Rs 5. lakh each.
He said the rewards would be presented to them during a felicitation function when they return.
Earlier in the day the chief minister conveyed her heartiest congratulation to team India for creating history in women's cricket.
"Heartiest congratulations to India’s Under 19 Women’s Cricket Team. What a stellar victory in the inaugural Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup!," she said.
"This is only the beginning, I am certain the daughters of India will scale greater heights in the days ahead, " Banerjee added.
