No faith in Mamata Banerjee: RG Kar rape-murder victim's father amid CBI probe
Kolkata/IBNS: Amid the ongoing CBI investigation into the rape and murder of post-graduate medical student of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the victim's father said the family has no faith in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is at the receiving end of massive public anger over the crime that has sent shockwaves across the country and raised doubts over women's security at work space in the state.
Speaking to NDTV, the victim's father said, "Early on I had full faith in her (Mamata Banerjee), but now no. She is asking for justice but what is she saying that for? She can take charge of that, she is doing nothing."
"They are saying 'We want justice'. But those of the general public who are saying the same thing, they are trying to lock them up," he added.
The victim's mother has raised questions on Mamata Banerjee's various schemes focussing on women calling them "pseudo" resonating with the netizens' claim that West Bengal has women-related schemes but no safety for them.
"All the schemes by Mamata Banerjee - the Kanyashree scheme- the Lakshmi scheme - are all pseudo. Whoever wants to avail these schemes, before availing them kindly see if your Lakshmi at home is safe," she told the broadcaster.
The victim's parents have already turned down Banerjee's offer of Rs. 10 lakh as compensation.
On August 14, Banerjee said, "The victim has departed. But I had asked her parents if they wanted to do something in their daughter's name. I would have provided the financial support.
"Yes, we are ready to give Rs. 10 lakh to the family."
The victim's father has completely turned down the offer and instead demanded justice for his daughter's rape-murder that has sent shockwaves across the country and drawn ire from all sections of the society.
The father told The Indian Express, "If I accept money for my daughter’s death, it will hurt her. We need justice."
"We have rejected the compensation and won’t take any in the future too," he added.
More than a week ago, the news of the rape and murder of the junior doctor was reported from RG Kar Hospital bringing the state administration under scanner over the alleged cover-up and fishy investigation by police before the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation by the Calcutta High Court.
Though the Kolkata Police has arrested one civic volunteer- named Sanjoy Roy- in a quick response to the crime, doctors who are on strike as a protest suspect there were more involved in the incident.
The hospital's initial message to the victim's parents that their daughter committed suicide and the renovation work near the crime scene within hours after CBI's takeover of the case have raised doubts over the state administration's intent.
