The letter extended a personal invitation to Rahman, his wife Dr Zubaida, and daughter Zaima to visit India at a “mutually convenient time,” stating: “A warm welcome awaits you in India.”

PM Modi expressed confidence that Rahman’s leadership would guide Bangladesh toward peace, stability, and prosperity, while reaffirming the deep-rooted friendship between India and Bangladesh, founded on shared history, cultural ties, and common aspirations.

Speaker Birla also spoke to Rahman over the phone, conveying PM Modi’s congratulations on behalf of India.

Birla represented the Government of India at Rahman’s oath-taking ceremony in Dhaka, as PM Modi was attending prior engagements in Mumbai with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, confirmed on X that both leaders expressed optimism about strengthening people-centric cooperation between India and Bangladesh.

India-Bangladesh relations, which had faced strains during the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, now have an opportunity for a diplomatic reset following the decisive BNP victory.

Indian officials say they are “cautiously optimistic” about Rahman’s pragmatic approach toward regional stability and bilateral engagement.
