Two Army officers assaulted, woman friend gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh
Indore: Two Army officers were assaulted, and one of their two female friends was gang-raped by armed attackers while on a picnic in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday, media reports said.
The incident occurred when the two Major-rank officers, who were undergoing training at the Army War College in Mhow Cantonment, went to the Jam Gate area for a picnic with two female friends, according to the police report, according to an India Today report.
The attackers held one officer and one of the women as hostage, and sent the other officer and woman away to collect a ransom of Rs 10 lakh for their release, the report said, citing police sources.
The officer who was released contacted his Commanding Officer (CO), who then alerted the police.
When the police arrived, the attackers fled.
The victims were taken to Mhow Civil Hospital for medical examination, where doctors found signs of injuries on the officers.
The medical report also confirmed that one of the women was gang-raped.
A case was registered under sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) related to robbery, dacoity, rape, and the Arms Act.
Indore Police arrested two suspects and formed ten teams to capture the remaining accused, the report said.
"We received information that four people, two men and two women, were attacked and robbed at Jam Gate by six people. We immediately dispatched our team and arrested two suspects. The complainant also mentioned that the accused had done something inappropriate to his female friend," SP Rurla of Indore, Hitika Vasal, was quoted as saying by India Today.
"An FIR has been registered in connection with the case, 10 teams were constituted to solve the case and two accused were detained. We have also identified four other people involved in the case," she said.
Efforts are underway to nab the four accused. And they will be caught at the earliest, she stated.
The woman's statement is yet to be recorded, once it happens, further action will be taken, Hitika Vasal added, according to the report.
