A video of the assault has now gone viral, where a man can be seen lying on the ground while the attackers are repeatedly kicking him, an incident that has triggered a massive uproar.

According to reports, three people have been arrested in the incident.

British Transport Police (BTP) has said it is investigating the incident.

The suspects, aged 17, 19 and 25, were bailed pending further inquiries, BBC reported.

The victims were taken to the hospital but later discharged from it after they recovered.

"We're aware of a video on social media and understand the concern this will have caused in the community," a spokesperson for BTP told BBC.

"We will not tolerate this sort of behaviour on the railway network and have launched a full investigation," the spokesperson said.

Politicians react

Sukhbir Singh Badal, who heads the Shiromani Akali Dal, has condemned the attack and wrote on X, "I strongly condemn the horrific attack on two elderly Sikh men in Wolverhampton, UK, during the course of which one Sikh’s turban was removed forcibly."

He said: "I also urge Union External Affairs Minister @DrSJaishankar to raise this issue with the UK government to ensure the safety of the Sikh diaspora."

Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East Sureena Brackenridge said: " I am aware of an incident that took place at Wolverhampton Railway Station with a video currently circulating on social media."

She said: "My thoughts are with all of those affected. This matter is currently under investigation by British Transport Police, and I would urge anybody with any relevant information to contact them directly, or make an anonymous report through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
