Union Minister Nisith Pramanik’s convoy attacked in Cooch Behar; police fire tear gas to scatter protesters
Cooch Behar (WB)/IBNS: Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik’s convoy was attacked with stones in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar on Saturday, media reports said.
He blamed the Trinamool Congress supporters for orchestrating the assault. The windshield of the Minister's SUV was shattered.
To control the crowds, the police resorted to firing tear gas shells. Pramanik represents Cooch Behar as a Member of Parliament.
"Even a minister is not secure in West Bengal; it reflects on the situation of the common man. The incident indicates the state of democracy in the state," Pramanik said, slamming the ruling TMC government in Bengal, according to media reports.
Reacting to the incident, BJP's Bengal unit said in a tweet: "The incompetence of CM Mamata Banerjee'sgovernment is becoming clear to the people of the country time and again." They also attached a video clip of the incident.

The BJP MP was attacked while he was going to the local BJP office.
According to reports, there is an outrage against Pramanik over the killing of a tribal, who was purportedly shot by the Border Security Force (BSF). The BSF reports to the Home Ministry, which Pramanik serves as a minister.
During a recent rally in Cooch Behar, Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee slammed Pramanik for allegedly not taking adequate measures to address the concerns of the tribal community following a killing, according to local reports.
TMC recently announced it will protest against Pramanik for allegedly giving a cold shoulder to the firing incident and that he would only see black flags wherever he goes in the region.
