UP: 5 killed, 17 injured as bus overturns in Jalaun
Jalaun (UP)/IBNS: At least 5 people were killed and 17 others injured when a bus they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in the Madhavgarh area of Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun on Sunday morning, police said.
Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja said that on Saturday night, a marriage procession from Mandela village came to Dutawali village under the Rampura police station area.
The bus was on its way back to Mandela when it was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Gopalpura village in the Madhavgarh area around 17 am, which led the fall into a deep pit.
Most of the passengers on the bus were seriously injured in the accident.
On being informed by passersby, police rushed to the spot and rushed all the seriously injured to CHC Rampura where doctors declared five passengers brought dead.
The injured are undergoing treatment, one of whom has been referred to a higher center for treatment as his condition is critical.
According to police, "There were 40 people in the bus, out of which, five people have died while more than 15 people were injured after a bus carrying wedding guests overturned after being hit by an unknown vehicle in Jalaun district."
A rescue operation is underway, the police said.
The deceased were identified as Raghunandan (48), Kuldeep Singh (38), Shiroman (65), all residents of Jalaun, while bus driver Kallu and conductor Vikas Rajawat were residents of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh.
