UP court declares ex-MP Jaya Prada 'absconder', orders arrest
Rampur (UP)/IBNS: A special court in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur declared cine actress and former MP Jaya Prada an 'absconder' on Tuesday in two five-year-old cases related to violation of the model code of conduct, reports said.
According to senior prosecution officer Amarnath Tiwari, the MP-MLA court of Judge Shobhit Bansal issued the order after the former MP failed to appear before it even after repeated non-bailable warrants.
The court has directed the Superintendent of Police to constitute a team and arrest Jaya Prada within a month.
Tiwari said that the police team had already searched several premises of the former MP in Delhi and Mumbai.
"Two cases of violation of model code of conduct were lodged against Jaya Prada during Lok Sabha elections in the year 2019," he said.
He said that the court has fixed March 6 for the next hearing.
The actor was the BJP candidate from Rampur in the 2019 polls and was defeated by Azam Khan of the Samajwadi Party.
She was elected to the Lok Sabha from Rampur in 2004 and 2009 on a Samajwadi Party ticket. The Samajwadi Party had expelled her.
