US govt appoints Indian-American Dr Geeta Rao Gupta as envoy for Global Women's Issues office
The US Senate has confirmed the appointment of Indian-American Dr Geeta Rao Gupta to the post of Ambassador-at-Large for the Office of Global Women's Issues in the State Department.
"Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Ambassador-at-Large for the Office of Global Women’s Issues.@StateDept looks forward to her efforts to promote women and girls' rights through U.S. foreign policy," read a tweet posted by The Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues.
Gupta is a leader on gender, women's issues, and HIV/AIDS who has been serving as executive director of the 3D Program for Girls and Women and senior fellow at the United Nations Foundation since 2017.
She is frequently consulted on issues related to AIDS prevention and women's vulnerability to HIV and is an advocate for women's economic and social empowerment to fight disease, poverty and hunger.
