V&AC team arrested Lat Mandal for accepting bribe
Guwahati: The sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam on Friday caught red-handed and arrested a government employee while he accepted bribe.
The arrested government employee was identified as Naba Kr. Choudhury, Lat Mandal of Sarupeta Revenue Circle in Assam's Barpeta district.
Rajib Saikia, CPRO of Assam police, said that a complaint was received at the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam alleging that Naba Kr Choudhury, Lat Mandal of the Office of the Circle Officer, Sarupeta Revenue Circle in Barpeta district had demanded Rs 3,000 as bribe from the complainant for processing of partition of his land.
"Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the public servant. Accordingly, today a team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam laid a trap in Bhabanipur Chariali under Barpeta district and caught Naba Kr. Choudhury, Lat Mandal of Sarupeta Revenue Circle red handed in a restaurant immediately after he accepted Rs 3000 from the complainant as bribe for processing of partition of his land. The tainted bribe money was recovered from the possession of Naba Kr. Choudhury and seized in presence of independent witnesses," Rajib Saikia said.
The Assam police CPRO also said that, finding sufficient evidence against the accused public servant, the team of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam has arrested him.
A case has been registered in ACB Police Station on 24/03/2023 vide ACB P.S. Case No. 21/2023 U/S 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) in this connection and necessary legal follow up actions are underway.
