'We will get hundred percent majority': Basavaraj Bommai on exit poll 'hung assembly' prediction for Karnataka

Bengaluru/IBNS: Dismissing the exit polls predictions of a hung assembly, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has expressed confidence that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will retain power with an absolute majority.

After the voting for the southern state concluded, a majority of the exit polls predicted that Karnataka is heading for a hung assembly in fact giving a slight edge to the Congress.

The exit polls even predicted that HD Kumaraswamy's Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) is likely to play the kingmaker.

Speaking to reports, Bommai said: "Our information on the ground is very clear. We will get hundred percent majority, comfortable majority."

"Exit polls are exit polls. They cannot be hundred percent correct. There will be plus or minus 5 percent in all exit polls. That can change the whole scenario," Bommai said.

On being asked if Congress will benefit from high voter turnout, Bommai said it is the other way around.

"Always, if you go by the track record, the more voters turn up, it is always better for the BJP, not the Congress. This shows that many people who otherwise do not vote, especially in urban areas, have come and voted. That is a positive sign for the BJP," he told reporters.

As per the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, the Congress is set for a clear majority with 122-140 seats in the 224-member assembly while the BJP is set to bag 62-80 seats.

News 24-Today's Chanakya predicted a majority for the Congress with 120 seats as against 92 for the BJP and 12 for the JD(S).

The ABP News-C Voter meanwhile, predicted 83-95 seats for the BJP, 100-112 for the Congress, and 21-29 for the JD(S).

The majority mark in the 224-seat assembly is 113 seats.

The results of the highly-anticipated Karnataka polls will be declared on Saturday.
