Rukmini Maitra as Binodini in Ram Kamal Mukherjee's film: Makers unveil first look
Kolkata/IBNS: Bengali actor Rukmini Maitra will be essaying legendary 19th century theatre artist from Bengal, Binodini Dasi, in filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee's upcoming film Binodini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan.
The makers on Monday unveiled Rukmini's first look as Binodini, which is the titular role in Mukherjee's upcoming project.
Speaking on the look, Mukherjee said, "Recreating Binodini's era was a tough task. But I am thankful to my team Suchismita Dasgupta, Bithika and Mousami for their research."
"Since the original photograph of Binodini was not preserved properly, It was almost impossible to understand the material of the saree or even the designs of her jewellery. The team worked almost three weeks to figure out the design and the fabric," he added.
Muslin Benarasi with traditional Bengali real gold ornaments, face toner from London and hairs from Tirupathi Temple were used to create Rukmini's look.
Rukmini says, "Even though we had quite a few hurdles to cross, I was confident that my team would succeed in recreating the look. I trusted them, and eventually my team created the magic.
"It took four hours of permutation and combination for them to create this look. Ram Kamal insisted that we add sheen and shimmer to make it look bright on the screen. Since we tend to go slightly matt with period drama, it was challenging for my team to add shine."
Produced by Prateek Chakraborty from Pramod Films and Dev Adhikari from Dev Entertainment Ventures in association with Assorted Motion Pictures, the film features Rahul Bose, Kaushik Ganguly, Mir and Om Sahani.
The story and screenplay has been penned by Priyanka Poddar, while Soumik Halder will be heading the cinematography, Tanmaay Chakraborty is recreating the era as Art Director and Suchishmita Dasgupta is setting the right fabric of the film as costume designer.
Music has been composed by musical duo Sourendra and Soumyajit while Ram Kamal has penned the lyrics.
The film went to the floors on Monday.
