Under the inspiring leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga, Sri Lanka defeated Australia in Pakistan to lift the title in 1996.

This was the only time Sri Lanka has won a 50-over World Cup title so far.

It also marked the dominance of the Sri Lankan team in Asian cricket in the late 90s era.
