The drug trafficking in Tripura seems to have hit a dead end with multiple successive operations being carried out against it by Security Forces and sister agencies on Saturday.
In another major operation, acting on specific intelligence about movement of drugs from Bangladesh, the joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department launched an operation in Badharghat area of Agartala on Saturday.
However, the Security Forces were surprised to find 1.15 kg of gold in place of alleged drugs. The seized gold comprising 14 gold bars and unfinished ornaments of 24 carats is valued at Rs 1.02 crore in the international market. The consignment was reportedly smuggled from Dubai to Bangladesh before reaching Tripura and was bound for New Delhi post melting in Tripura. This operation also led to the arrest of two individuals belonging to West Bengal and New Delhi. The seized gold and the arrested individuals were handed over to the authorities for further legal action.
The successful interdiction is part of the ongoing efforts by Assam Rifles and is in line with the state CM mission of "Nasha Mukt Tripura". It is noteworthy that Assam Rifles has carried out 20 successful operations since January 2025 recovering contraband items worth Rs 65.56 crore.
Assam Rifles in collaboration with sister agencies remains vigilant and committed to disrupting narcotics networks operating in the state.
