Two senior cyclists from Agartala, Chandan Bhowmik (66) and Ajoy Kumar Saha (59), have successfully completed an extraordinary 5,300 km bicycle journey from Agartala, the capital of Tripura, to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.

Chandan Bhowmik is a retired officer from the Agriculture Department, while Ajoy Kumar Saha is a respected businessman.

The journey was undertaken with the objective of spreading awareness about environmental protection, conservation of natural resources, world peace, and social well-being. The expedition commenced on 5 January 2026 and was completed in 56 days, despite both cyclists being above 60 years of age. They covered a daily distance ranging from 100 to 220 kilometres.

Each day of the journey brought a unique experience. Travelling through Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, they interacted extensively with people they met along the roads, including villagers, youth, elders, and passers-by, sharing life experiences and social messages.

According to the cyclists, such long-distance cycling journeys are not only beneficial for physical fitness but also help build mental strength, discipline, and self-control. They emphasized that regular physical activity and a disciplined lifestyle can help individuals, especially the younger generation, stay away from drug addiction. They strongly believe that anyone who is healthy, motivated, and free from substance abuse can undertake such meaningful initiatives.

The journey concluded on 1 March at around 7:00 PM, when they reached the Gandhi Mandapam at Kanyakumari, marking the successful completion of their historic ride.

In recognition of this remarkable achievement, they were honoured by the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation. The journey stands as a proud milestone for Agartala and Tripura and sends a powerful message promoting fitness, environmental awareness, and a drug-free society.
